Getting started
Note
It should go without saying, but you should have nMarkov in your server before continuing.
If he's not there yet, no worries - click the 'Invite nMarkov' button in the menu bar.
Interactive Method
Using the interactive /setup
command is the fastest and easiest way to get started with nMarkov.
When you run this command, nMarkov will start a series of prompts to guide you through the setup process and easily configure the bot for your server.
Manual Method
Setting the channel
The first thing you'll need to do is set the channel that nMarkov will use to learn from. If you don't tell him what channel to read, he won't listen to anyone!
To do that, you can use the /channels add <channel>
command.
Can I add more than one channel?
nMarkov is capable of reading and sending messages in multiple channels in your server, but you'll need nMarkov Plus for that.
To find out more, click on the 'nMarkov Plus' button in the navigation menu.
You should also double check your server's permissions, as well as the permissions of the channel you're setting him to, to make sure that he can read and send messages in the channel you choose.
Changing the probability
By default, nMarkov has a 5%
probability in each server it joins.
This means that, when nMarkov figures it has enough messages in its log to start generating messages, each incoming message sent by a member of your server in the channel you set has a 5% chance of triggering nMarkov to generate and send a message of his own.
Some people think this is too high, and some people think it's too low. You can change this probability to whatever you like with the following command:
To change the probability, use the /setprobability <probability>
command.
What are the limits on probability?
Free servers (those without nMarkov Plus) can only set the probability up to 25%.
Servers with nMarkov Plus can set their probability up to 100%.
You can use numbers with up to two decimal places, too - so you can really fine-tune nMarkov to work for your server.
Tip
Lower probabilities work much better on busier, more chatty servers.
